Earth Night with LinKamArt

18th April 2024 was a big day at Broadworks - not only did our gallery brighten up with On Display, a new exhibition by Dawn Beckles, we also welcomed UAL’s MA Biodesign students and their projects in our shop, invited Lin Kam Art’s Bass Tone Regeneration to the terrace, and opened up our studios to the public.

Dawn Beckles is a mixed media artist specialising in painting, collage and screen printing. ‘On Display’ invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and find beauty in the seemingly ordinary. By showcasing the artistic potential of the items we collect, this exhibition celebrates the richness and complexity of our material world, encouraging us to find meaning in the everyday and to cultivate a deeper appreciation for the objects that populate our lives.
The exhibition runs until 19th May and all artworks are available to purchase - have a look at the pieces here!

The tropical colours and themes of the Private View were perfectly complemented by drinks from Darkside Rum Punch, who offered their incredible Caribbean rum punch to visitors.

The shop sparkled with premixed cocktails by Ghost Labs, a brand new company who pride themselves in crafting exciting flavour profiles, perfect for any occasion.

MA Biodesign students from UAL installed a variety of fascinating projects in the shop, curated by Akir Hall and Kirsten Tingle.
This included large prints, soundwaves and miniature live environments, all in harmony with the events’ focus on Earth and ideas of sustainability.

The combined events celebrated Earth Night, an initiative by DJs for Climate Action, aiming to harness music and night life’s energy to generate climate action, fundraise, and celebrate. To bring music to Broadworks, we invited Lin Kam Art, founded by Linett Kamala, who presented a line up of incredible DJs (Linett Kamala, EK3 and Arsia) on the terrace, enriching the evening with joy and dancing.

As a centrepiece for the terrace, Linett also presented her Bass Tone Regeneration piece, which lit up to join the festivities and played us some music while the DJs were setting up. Bass Tone Regeneration was commissioned by Hive Curates for Light Up Kilburn. It has since travelled to the Royal Albert Hall and was recently presented at the British Library as part of their Beyond the Bassline exhibition.

To commemorate the event and give our visitors a chance to express themselves, we created a drawing wall, inviting everyone to write/draw a note to Earth. The wall filled up with thoughts, images and colour throughout the evening.

The celebrations were fuelled with flavourful, impactful and nutritious veggie meals by the wonderful Spring Café.

Some of our resident artists were also able to open their studios to the public, discussing their newest projects and work in progress with visitors, and chatting about how they bring life to our first floor.

Bringing people and creatives together is at the heart of what we do, so stay tuned for our exciting Summer programme on the Broadworks terrace!
