From Studio Lockdown
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we teamed up with EFG Art Ltd and launched @FromStudioLockdown on Instagram. With this project, we sought to document art being produced throughout the pandemic. With art fairs and exhibitions cancelled, museums and galleries closed, the way in which audiences discovered and consumed art radically changed.
Our aim with this project was to provide an exchange platform for artists to share visions and ideas, eventually culminating in a post-pandemic physical exhibition to celebrate the resilience of the creative and cultural sectors. Through @FromStudioLockdown we hoped to bring people together at a time of social distancing.
The project was popular during the periods of lockdown we experienced in 2020. Artists across the UK and beyond used #fromstudiolockdown to communicate and collaborate with fellow artists.
We shortlisted finalists by appointing a jury panel of industry experts including Alma Cecilia Suarez - photographer and researcher of Artsy, Elena Francia Gabriele - art curator and advisor, Gabriele Romeo - art historian and curator, Terry Smith - British artist and Tabish Khan - art critic.
This project culminated in collaboration with Enfield Council in July 2021 with an art trail of seventeen shortlisted creatives across Enfield for two weeks. We wanted to spread a message of hope, positivity and new innovative opportunities across the borough.
@FromStudioLockdown had a reach which spread across the globe. Over the course of a year there were hundreds of amazing artists who used the hashtag to share how their practise had changed due to the pandemic. But we always wanted to focus on our local area, which is why we chose to curate an art trail throughout the borough for local residents to enjoy.
